There is a new flea market in town, well, not a true flea market, but something that calls itself a flea market! Me being me, I had to check it out. I was beginning to think I had wasted the last 10 minutes of my life walking around when I looked down and saw this amazingly horrible, homemade cabinet!
Something about it struck me as having some potential if I could only get all that decoupaged image off the front. My mind immediately went to an image I had seen on Pinterest a few days before and I thought it would work perfectly for this cabinet.
My son insisted on helping me remove the decoupage image, after an hour scraping, wiping, and more scraping, we finally had the image off. The downside, the image had left quite a bit of discoloring on the wood, and the texture was more coarse than I originally had thought. It was time to rethink my original concept for this.
After stewing over it for a bit, I decided the texture could add personality to it, so I went on my hunt for the right paint colors.
After lots of layers of paint (the wood wouldn’t hold the color very well), I was finally finished and loved the end result. The best part, the inside is a fun shade of ocean blue so when you open the cabinet door you get a burst of color.
Now, I just have to figure out where I can put this magnificent little piece.
